Where it all started, Veganuary!

Who's doing Veganuary this month? In case you hadn't heard about Veganaury, it's an incredible campaign to encourage and support people to make a change by following a vegan diet. This campaign holds a special place in my heart as it is where I started my vegan journey, January 2017.

I'd been interested in veganism for a couple of years before Veganuary 2017, that's when I fully took the plunge and never looked back. As many vegans will tell you, for me personally this all started for health reasons. I was gluten intolerant and I regularly had awful gut problems for years, and if I'm totally honest, I put this down to the terrible diet choices I made during my university years. Once I left university, I decided enough was enough and I needed to put my health first, this is when I stumbled upon the vegan diet. After a couple of failed attempts, lots of research and self educating, January 1st 2017 is when I made one of the best decisions of my life. Almost instantly I felt better, my gluten intolerance disappeared (thank goodness, I would breath bread and pasta if I could), my energy levels went up and most surprising of all, this is the first year in my life I didn't have an signs of hay fever!

It wasn't long before I started questioning other areas in my life that caused harm to animals. I guess you start questioning, why did I ever think it was OK to eat meat or dairy? Wait, whats in my make up? All these questions whirled round in my mind and I couldn't remain ignorant anymore, I had to change. I started checking not only the food I was putting in my body but also the clothes and cosmetics I was putting on my body.

I couldn't be more grateful to Veganuary for supporting me through my first year of veganism, I encourage everyone to give it a go and experience what I have. Here's to many more years of Veganuary!
